Busy Mom’s 24-Hour Schedule: Balancing Work, Family, and a Little Bit of Dough

A realistic 24-hour schedule for busy working moms balancing a 9-to-5, family life, and the comfort of homemade meals. Real routines, small wins, and cozy moments that make balance actually possible.

I’m often asked how I do it…full-time job, homeschool, urban homestead, etc. My response, “The grace of God”. That is the absolute TRUTH! There is no such thing as balance. My life is “seasonally” imbalanced.
Most days, it’s more of a rhythm: a steady beat that shifts with marriage, kids, work, and life.

As a mom, I’ve learned that peace doesn’t come from getting everything done.
It comes from doing the right things — a little at a time, in the right order, with a whole lot of grace.

So today I’m sharing what my real 24-hour schedule looks like as a mom who works full-time, runs a home, and still somehow finds time to bake, blog, and breathe (most days).

This isn’t about perfection — it’s about rhythm, rest, and real life.
Feel free to borrow, tweak, or just take comfort in the fact that you’re not the only one (attempting) to juggle it all.

5:30 – 7:30 AM | The Quiet Start

Before the house wakes up, I steal a little time that’s for me and Jesus.

I make coffee, grab my bible, and feed my sourdough starter. This has become my morning ritual.
Some days I answer a few blog comments or bake dough from the night before; other mornings, I just enjoy the quiet.

By 6:45, the house stirs. Breakfast and chores — the morning dance begins.

🕊️ Tip: Prep breakfast ahead — I rotate between my Sourdough Discard Pancakes and my No-Knead Honey Oat Loaf with a pat of butter. This day I pulled out bagel dough that was prepped the night before

8:00 – 9:00 AM | The Transition

This is the mental gear shift — from mom to professional.

Whether I’m driving in or logging on from my home office, I keep the transition slow and intentional.
A quick prayer, the bible on audiobook, or my favorite worship music helps me refocus.

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM | Deep Work Mode

Once I settle in, I protect these hours like gold.
My most focused window means fewer phone checks, more checked boxes.

I keep snacks (usually bread and butter) and water nearby and use 50-minute focus blocks (set a timer — it works).
When I work from home, I’ll sometimes start a load of laundry between tasks or explain homeschool lessons — small wins count.

12:00 – 1:00 PM | Midday Reset

Lunch isn’t fancy, but I try to make it mindful.

If I’m at home, I’ll warm up soup or a sandwich and take 10 minutes outdoors.
If I’m in the office, it’s often leftovers — usually from recipe testing.

1:00 – 5:00 PM | Afternoon Grind

This block is where discipline meets reality.
Energy dips, emails multiply, and to-do lists grow legs.

When focus fades, I take five minutes to step outside, refill water, or reheat that same cup of coffee for the third time.
Then it’s back to finishing content, meetings, and clearing my inbox before mom-mode resumes.

5:00 – 7:30 PM | Family + Dinner Chaos

By this point, the day’s tempo shifts again — and I’m back to the rhythm of home.

I’ll start dinner while checking homeschool work. If I’m testing recipes, everyone gets lucky — dinner might be one of my blog creations.

Some nights it’s loud and messy. Others it’s quiet and calm.
Either way, this is the sacred part of the day — the one where time slows down just enough to notice the good stuff.

7:30 – 9:00 PM | Wind-Down Mode

This is where we reset. Dishes, quick tidy-up, maybe an evening family devotional.

Sometimes I’ll get our daily bread started. If my starter needs attention, I’ll give it a quick feed and jot a blog idea while it bubbles.

9:00 – 10:00 PM | Me Time (Sort Of)

I try to leave this block open — it’s flexible grace time.

Some nights I’ll edit photos or outline a new post.
Other nights, I curl up with a blanket and a book.

🕯️ Note: If you’re a creative mom too, use this time for something that fills your cup — even if it’s just ten minutes.

10:00 PM – 5:30 AM | Rest & Reset

Sleep used to feel optional — until I realized it’s the foundation for every good thing that follows.
I set my phone across the room and (try to) keep it there.

🧾 Make It Your Own

Every mom’s rhythm looks different, and that’s the beauty of it.
Here’s how to build your own realistic 24-hour flow:

  1. Anchor your mornings — one non-negotiable ritual (coffee, prayer, journaling).
  2. Batch your focus — group deep work into 2–3 blocks a day.
  3. Prep for the dips — snacks, water, small breaks, grace.
  4. Protect your evenings — not every night has to be productive; some are for breathing.

Final Thoughts

Being a working mom means living in the middle of everything — and somehow, finding beauty there.
There are unfinished chores and unmatched socks, but there’s also laughter in the kitchen and warmth in a loaf of bread that finally rose overnight.

We don’t chase perfect here — just progress.
And for today, that’s enough.
