There’s a quiet moment on Christmas morning that I guard gently.
The house is still waking up.
The tree is soft and still.
The kids are padding around in their pajamas, whispering about stockings.
And I’m holding my first cup of coffee, breathing in the warmth of my home.
In that moment, what I want most is to be here.
Not rushing.
Not cooking to impress.
Not performing a holiday.
Just being inside it.
But holiday cooking can easily pull us out of the moment — if we let it.
So years ago, I asked myself:
How can I make Christmas breakfast feel warm, memorable, and stress-free — without standing over the stove?
This Southern Eggnog Bread Pudding became the answer — and the tradition.
It:
- Assembles the night before
- Bakes while stockings are opened
- Fills the house with cinnamon + nutmeg
- Lets you stay present in the magic
No rushing.
No fussing.
Just warmth.

Cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar. Serve warm with coffee or eggnog.

A Tradition That Feels Like Home
This recipe matters because it lets you be part of the moment, instead of managing it.
It creates:
- A warm, calm kitchen
- A slow start to the day
- A memory your kids will feel forever
The food is not the performance.
The food is the anchor to the moment.
