Grits and Grillades

Ingredients

_For the Grillades:_

  • - 2 lbs beef round thinly sliced
  • - Salt and pepper to taste
  • - ½ cup all-purpose flour for dredging
  • - 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • - 1 large onion chopped
  • - 1 green bell pepper chopped
  • - 2 cloves garlic minced
  • - 2 cups beef broth
  • - 1 can 14.5 oz diced tomatoes
  • - 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • - 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • - 2 bay leaves

_For the Grits:_

  • - 1 cup stone-ground grits
  • - 4 cups water or milk
  • - 2 tablespoons butter
  • - ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • - Salt to taste
